Sibshops – Providing Sibling Support

LittleStar ABA Therapy is excited to offer Sibshops for children and young adults ages 6 – 18 years old who have a brother or sister with developmental disabilities.

Sibshops provide an opportunity for siblings to form a community and share experiences in a relaxed, recreational setting. Participants meet other sibs, have fun, laugh, talk about their experiences, play games and learn about the services their siblings receive.

The program mixes fast-paced recreational activities with information and discussion activities.  We shine the spotlight on siblings, encouraging them to interact with and support their peers while learning ways to deal with any challenges they may face.

The goals of Sibshops are:

  • To provide children and young adults who have a sibling with special needs an opportunity to meet other siblings in a relaxed, recreational setting.
  • To provide siblings with opportunities to discuss common joys and concerns with other siblings.
  • To provide siblings with an opportunity to learn how others handle situations commonly experienced by siblings of brothers and sisters with special needs.
  • To provide siblings with an opportunity to learn more about the implications of their sibling’s special needs.
  • To provide parents and other professionals with opportunities to learn more about the concerns and opportunities frequently experienced by brothers and sisters of people with special needs.
